I am guessing the previous Queen was highly promiscuous and took no effort to hide the fact as well. She might have even blatantly stated that she is indulging other men while married to the King. I don’t blame him for being cold and distant to the little child and his second wife. No matter how beautiful Abigail was, and how cute Blanche was, the King just couldn’t look at them lovingly knowing that the woman he loved never loved him back and died without showing him an ounce of love. This was worsened by the fact that she left Blanche in his care; a daughter who may not be his own biological child. I actually feel extremely sorry for him.
