Technically speaking it was not uncommon for a noble family to adopt another noble or a commoner in a rare case, mainly female and raise them and then marry them off to their children. They did it to make sure the girl would grown up with her groom, be taught bridal lessons at an early age, make sure she was “pure” and kept away from other noble men until she debuted into high society with her fiance.
