Probably he avoided her because he thought she killed his wife but the more he looked at her now the more she resembled his wife and that makes him confused and uncomfortable.

Although it wasn’t a good start for him I see a chance.
I think it’s due to multiple incidents…maybe the gods helped her by having him dream about his wife. Her saying how she was afraid of him, but she was putting up a front. Her fear of her being killed or discarded if he doesn’t like her. Her usual gestures of writing letters and now (in this timeline) handmade gifts. And during this chapter, she greeted him so formally and flinched when he tried to pat her head. All the little signs that show he’s been a bad father and making him feel guilty. Also, we don’t know the full story from the past timelines from his perspective (not to defend him), so we don’t know if he really felt nothing for her in the past. Either way I’m hoping he continues to rectify his mistakes.
