Makeup artist, Yoon Seol, was involved in a celebrity accident. When she opened her eyes, she was in the body a heroine in a novel. For a moment, she was mesmerized by the beautiful female lead’s appearance, then she realized that she is in a novel known for torturous confinements. In the novel, the heroine Lila is r*ped by three men. She was an unfortunate character who ended up being imprisoned and turned into an idiot. “Merry bad endings* are not my thing! If it’s a bad ending, it’s a bad ending, why does it have to be merry!” To avoid the original route, Yoon Seol, or rather, Lila, decided to make herself ugly with makeup with the use of a ‘secret pouch.’ Ten years later. Lila, who avoided the original route, received a marriage proposal from an ugly duke. “Don’t be too scared, I’m just being honest with you because you weren’t honest with me first.” But will her ending be a merry bad ending? Or a happy ending? *merry bad ending – endings that may seem sad but the characters themselves are happy

    No, but it’s darker than her original skin tone. She darkens her skin tone as part of her ‘ugly look. Darker doesn’t equal dark skin, just that’s is darker than usual.

      In the manhwa she goes overboard with her entire appearance. It’s not just the foundation but her entire make up, dresses, hair, the fact that she wears pads inside her dress to alternate her physique in order to considered ugly by society so that people she needs to avoid do not pay attention to her. Saying that this is racist cause she used a tone darker foundation is reaching. By this logic using a tone darker foundation can be seen as blackface.

        Point out to me where I said it was racist here. Although if it was JUST to be over the top and the wrong shade for her, she wouldn’t be so concerned in the story when she thought her real skin colour would be revealed. So yeah, she is doing darker skin, because it’s part of her ugly appearance. The ML is also considered ugly, just for having freckels, which she also gives herself it’s got pretty messed up beauty standard in this world.

        I said it was something, and commented on the fact that it looked like it was implying her ‘darker’ skin was ugly. Which it is, as an objective fact if you look at only the cover, which is what I had done when making the original comment. I never mentioned anything about race, you jumped to that conclusion. It was never about race, just the shade of her skin. Are all dark people different races? White people, Korean people, and other ‘lighter skin’ races can have darker skin tones than that. It’s a real, stupid beauty standard that paler = better and I was simply pointing put that it looked like it was reinforcing those stereotypes in this.

        If you only look at the cover you see the both sides of the FL. Based on so many manhwas being about an “ugly” lady becoming pretty most assume exactly that. I don’t understand where you got the “oh she’s wearing a shade darker foundation therefore she thinks dark skin is ugly” when from the very beginning her main goal was to completely change her appearance.

        Once again, it was a comment made before reading anything about the manhwa. You’re just looking for something to accuse me of. Just by reading the title/plot and looking at the image, all you know is that she makes herself ‘uglier’ using a magic pouch, and that the paler, no make up version of her is smiling, while the darker skinned version, meant to be the ‘ugly’ side, is not. But sure, it’s totally normal to act like this and want to prove someone that they’re wrong this badly on a 3 month old comment on an aggregate site.
