What she’s doing is indeed stupid and I honestly want her to run away somewhere else but in her mind the Duke was in cahoots with the abusive aunt. In her mind the Duke threw her away in the capital and he wouldn’t care if she was beaten to death since he didn’t her to begin with.(P.S. The MC thinks she was sent away to the capital because the Duke didn’t want her.)

it was a instinct to be cautious around people even if it’s a family since she was sent away at a young age and was abused in the capital and the one who send her in that hell where she died was her father who never showed up or make letters and the first and last letter he gave was her name at the age of 10 and wasn’t protected once by her father so she was cautious about her surroundings and people around her and actually she was very smart to think no one taught her anything but she can read books and understand it and have lots of ideas she can be called a genius
