First of all it’s not the “ML”s fault that she was being adopted to marry him. The priest was the one who ask for Karen to be adopted.
I think priest likes her (somehow) and maybe knew what is really happening to her but he’s also a psycho that is why he is supporting her. And FL breaking up with him, maybe he thought that since the ML appeared, the FL falls for him and wanted to breakup the engagement so that she can be with ML. And so priest asked this other father to adopt FL so that she can be engaged and be happy with ML.
Also, I think that the mother is the one who is crazy and something happened to female lead because of that blessing of immortality. I think because of that FL suffered and the mother can’t take it and find ways to “fix” her and this found that Nancy and this Nancy gave FL drugs. But in the process FL’s mind deteriorated and messy that the mother just succumb to her illness, maybe not just a normal illness too but craziness that she insisted on FL. You know, adult can easily put things in a child’s mind. Maybe she keeps physically hurting MC and put the mother’s delusions about this “book” in to her mind.
