The reason why Ellen grabbed ruby is that she thought ruby was throwing up and she saw her fist protruded when she clenched(signs of Anorexia), reminded her of her mom who also had Anorexia and committed suicide. That made Ellen became emotional because of all those painful/tragic memories of her mother.
But still, ruby didn’t deserve all this?
