I can kinda guess what’s happening here. Just like Jade said.. an awakening of some beast can make distortion of axes time and place so maybe in the future where he goes missing and came back 5 years later maybe he encounter/trapped in some beast awakening and go back in time. My guess is that the man who’s always come whenever the princess caught fever is Jade from the future.
